EMPOWER
Sustainable living opportunities for young women to help address childhood marriage and poverty cycles

The tailors of Mauka products are young women who have been engaged in the tailoring initiative for sustainable futures with Tong-Len, a charity operating in Dharamsala, Northern India. The women residing in local slum communities, born into families where rubbish collection for recycling has been one of the primary fields of income have honored themselves and valued a new future by committing to the program. With recent worldwide events, young women in these slum communities are facing increasing pressures to be married during childhood, in order to release financial burdens on their families. The short term sacrifices, patience and commitment of the young women is remarkable as they embarked on their new learning in 2021 where they have progressed from basic maths and measurements to creating the products of MAUKA.

The products are made with traditional hand block technologies from Jaipur, Rajasthan and environmentally sustainable practices are at the forefront of their production processes.
